Author Dr. Laura E. Helton visited the Dumas Center on Tuesday, June 25 2024 to give a lecture about a book she wrote entitled "Scattered and Fugitive Things: How Black Collectors Created Archives and Remade History." Part of the book mentions Virginia Lee, a librarian at the Gainsboro Library, who worked to preserve black history. Following the talk from Dr. Helton, a panel discussion was held featuring family members, academics, and a former Gainsboro Library branch manager.
